News: Oh Crap It's Christmas! returns and more
The holidays are finally here and, as always, we're hitting the ground running with lots of festive musical fun. Zoolights, Audubon Zoo's holiday celebration series kicks off the season and the Jingle Belles will be there for the big reveal as well as every Saturday evening thru the end of the year. Come join us and get your twinkle on.
"Debbie Davis is generally recognized as possessing one of the most beautiful voices in a city filled with talented singers. Her warm, full voice illuminates the nooks and crannies of these songs with an emotional resonance that reminds listeners of such mistresses of restrained passion as Astrud Gilberto and Betty Carter. She’s also capable of letting that big voice carry her into mainstream pop territory, where her saucy delivery is more reminiscent of numerous big band vocalists and the great Cass Elliot. Every gesture is priceless."
John Swenson, Offbeat Magazine.
Oh Crap, It's Christmas!
Join Debbie and Matt for an evening of festive fun and merry music.
As we move through the dog days of summer, thoughts of cooler days and happy times carry us through.
In October, Debbie and Josh hit the road again for a series of private and public shows in tried-and-true venues plus a few new ones! Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Kentucky and Ohio await. Mark your calendars and come get yourself some jazz-nerd fun.
In December Oh Crap, It's Christmas! returns to Cafe Istanbul on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 7pm for another one-night-only show filled to the brim with holiday cheer, seasonal silliness and all things merry and bright. This year's list of special guests includes Beth Patterson and Josh Paxton, The Jingle Belles, and Johnny Sketch and the Bandicoot Four! Tickets go on sale HERE on November 16th.
*The dog days of summer are here in New Orleans but, while the people slow down, the music never stops. You can see Debbie and Josh Paxton every Thursday and Friday at the Four Points Sheraton at the corner of Bourbon and Toulouse streets in the heart of the French Quarter. The drinks are reasonable, the food is delicious, and the air conditioning is abundant. Discounted valet parking ($5 with your bar tab of $25 or more) is the icing on the cake.
**In October, Debbie and Josh set out to the mid-atlantic and mid-west for a 10 day run of dates. Thanks to all the folks who have provided venues, beds, meals and people to play for. Check out the dates and mark your calendars.
** Oh Crap, It's Christmas returns in 2017! Mark your calendars, folks! We return to Cafe Istanbul on December 17 with another roster of great performers to help get you into the holiday spirit. Tickets are on sale now! We are also partnering with local businesses again this year with sponsorship opportunities to fit nearly every budget and business. Want to sponsor the show? We'd love to promote your business.
*** The Jingle Belles return to SoBou for holiday lunches in December. Come join us in the heart of the French Quarter for lunch, $.25 martinis and holiday harmony. We love playing private parties and events, too. If you want to hear us, we want to hear from you!
* Debbie and Josh hit the road in October for a north-east run, performing every where from opulent private homes to hole-in-the-wall bars. Whisky pours the same in any room. Have a look at the tour dates and come see us when we're in your town.
It's going to be a busy spring!
I'm so proud to announce that Josh Paxton and I have finished our new CD, "Vices and Virtues - a live record". CDs and digital downloads are available now at the STORE.
Debbie Davis and the Mesmerizers had a great show at French Quarter Festival at the beautiful Palm Court Jazz Cafe. Special guest, David Silverman on sousaphone, was the icing on the cake. Missed it? Have a look at a video from the show!
Jazz Fest is a busy time in New Orleans, even if you never make it to the fairgrounds. Too many gigs to list here but, suffice it to say, there's a lot of music to hear and only 11 days to do it in. A notable item on this list is a special secret show with Josh Paxton at the (looks right, looks left, moves closer) Silky Satin Lounge (aka Tom McDermott's house) on Monday May1. Tickets are very limited for this intimate performance local. A donation of $20 is suggested.
Last but hardly least, Debbie Davis and the Mesmerizers will be making our band debut at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival this year. We are honored to be the closing act on the Economy Hall Stage on Saturday, May 6 at 5:35.
